Jamie decided to go all out for my birthday: I could go anywhere I wanted...in Jerusalem. Some of you may not know this, but I spent a year studying at the Hebrew University, so I came to love this city quite intimately. So, what would I want to see on my first full day back in two years? Well, let me show you....
For many Protestants who visit Jerusalem, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre ranks about as close to the bottom of the barrel as you can get. It's over-crowded, smelly, and is so internally fractured that many choose to miss it altogether.
That would be a mistake. This place - particularly a small chapel in the bowels of the building - holds second-place only to the Catacombs of Rome as my favorite man-made place on earth. Don't judge me. It's the place where traditionally (and most likely) Jesus was crucified and buried, and for this follower of Jesus, that's a BIG deal!
We have been moving quickly, getting our bearings and settling in, but hope to update you soon on exactly where we are located, and just what exactly we're doing here!
