Before we left the States we each got last minute haircuts, not knowing how long it would before we had another! We considered growing Scruffy's hair out - really bring out the surfer dude in him - but my patience for its fluffy, spastic personality, and Scruffy's tendency to let it express itself at will, ran out. It was time for a cut - growing it out was just not an option if it was going to go through such an awkward adolescent phase on its way to surfer cool maturity. Not to mention that family wedding pictures in November would just not approve.
However, Scruffy was hesitant. Friends had recommended a barber in Montanita where we could get it cut for $5, but Scruffy didn't feel his head of hair was worth such an expense. So...I got to cut it. Now, I have given Geoff all of his haircuts since we've been married but I usually take the easy way out and buzz it all short with handy dandy clippers! No skill required! Well, we don't have such clippers here but my dad sent down a pair of scissors and a comb with Caryn just in case it came to this. Only problem was...we couldn't find the comb and I had never cut hair using only scissors anyway. We weren't too worried; it would have been tough for Scruffy to have looked worse and the standards around here aren't all that high! Unkempt dreadlocks are all the rage in Montanita...a hack job of a haircut would only help him fit in!
Scruffy illustrated his lack of concern during the haircut by suddenly falling asleep and almost losing an ear! I should have known better than to start the process so late at night...at 6 p.m. He really just cannot be still and stay awake at the same time - it's almost impressive if it weren't so perplexing (and dangerous) at times!
It took awhile and is not perfect at ALL, but it is shorter! Goal accomplished! Scruffy disappeared and my handsome hubby was home! To all of Geoff's family...I want you to know that we have every intention of getting a better cut before the wedding, no worries. :)
Here's the before and after!
