For no particular reason that I am aware of this suddenly overwhelmed me last night.
Made me want to do something crazy like go skydiving at midnight or kiss our final savings goodbye on a 1983 CJ7 Jeep the second we land in Texas.
I really want that jeep.
I have no idea where the skydiving in the dark thing came from.
Transition does strange things to me. Our bags are packed and by the door, save a few things for the final carry on. I am so preoccupied by seeing my dog that I really haven't maintained my normal ability to hyper-focus on the other stuff that will come with returning to the States.
Stuff like, hmmm, we need a car, and a place to live, and a JOB.
That last one is particularly tricky. With the past several months working for someone on a case by case basis, never sure of what tomorrow will hold, we are dreaming of well defined, part-time jobs with work that doesn't come home with you. We need something flexible enough to allow Geoff to complete some intensive writing and curriculum development projects that will be used as Study Guides/Field Notes with future groups. It's going to rock.
Geoff's particular dream at the moment is to load boxes at dark a.m. for UPS, Fedex or the like. Labor-intensive, well-defined. There's no taking that work home with you. Unless you find a package marked for you, perhaps.
With the greater dream of leading groups to Israel at least a few times each year full-time, salaried employment is not a strong option for us. Even for churches or other places of employment that say they are willing to work around it, being gone for 2-3 months out of the year is just not easy for those left behind; we struggle with putting others through that. We consider each opportunity that presents itself but are wary of committing to full-time "paid" ministry of any kind, for this reason and a few others. It would have to be an incredibly clear, straight from the LORD, no doubt about it calling.
All in all, we are crazy excited about what our near and further future may hold. There's nothing better than seeing dreams come to life. Geoff has poured so much passion, time, and study into the pursuit of bringing this land to life for others to experience and it's been incredible to watch. He has a few speaking engagements coming up this summer/fall and we've got some great new photos and artifacts to help those presentations come alive. Travel the land of the Bible without leaving town - now that's awesome.
Speaking of photos, it's a beautiful day in Jerusalem and we're off to track down the good shepherd. Or fruitful vines...the grapes are growing! Or anything else we stumble across; you never know what experience this land holds next.
