We headed to the animal market first thing Saturday. It has changed a bit during the last year, making picture taking (in my preferred non-intrusive way) much more difficult, but we certainly enjoyed the experience as always.
After our culture lesson for the morning, we headed back into town for a breakfast of huevos con arroz (rice and eggs) and were off to the main event. The Artisan Market. Though the market runs all week, Saturday is definitely prime time with vendors spilling for blocks down every side street from the main markets square.
Long story short, our scheduled three day shopping trip was accidentally finished in one. We may have gone a bit overboard on a few purchases, and our bags are beyond full. After shopping and visiting and bargaining all day Saturday, we spent today trying to figure out how to get what we'd bought home. Therefore, we minimized our time in the market today, because we are weak. We have no more room, and it's so hard to leave those beautiful scarves and blankets behind!
We have one more day in Otavalo on Monday before catching an evening ride to the airport and flying all night back to Texas. We have had a great time in Ecuador, and we're looking forward to getting back to Texas and picking up where we left off in the midst of our life of transition. Apparently we're missing out on quite the cold spell. If you're cold - we'll have a limited amount of alpaca scarves, blankets, and wraps available for you in a few days, and this stuff keeps even ME warm.
