I learned so much from the story, but it was the title of the book more than anything that has stayed almost constantly on my mind all these years. It's still working its way into my heart.
Today we were in Ein Gedi (Spring of the Mountain Goat), which is a beautiful desert oasis in the wilderness near the Dead Sea. A huge herd of Ibex (mountain goats) moved through on the hillside above us - a beautiful sight to witness.
As we watched these gorgeous creatures jumping graciously from rocky ledge to slippery slope, Geoff reminded us of this passage:
"The Sovereign Lord
is my strength;
He makes my feet
like the feet of a deer,
He enables me to tread
on the heights."
- Habakkuk 3:19
This idea of God giving us hinds feet for high places is communicated through the Text at least 3 times (Habakkuk 3:19; 2 Samuel 22:34; Psalm 18:33).
It's hard to pray for the courage to ask GOD to give us feet like the hinds, so that we can walk any road He wants to lead us down. Often I prefer to ask that He simply lead me on the easiest path.
His path is always better. May He grant us feet like the Hinds to follow Him to high places.
