There's something about this guy that makes me think he has to be making up for something. He is loud. We hear him at all hours of the day and night, trumpeting his presence on his constant patrol of the grounds.
Yes, Hercules is a daddy...again. The little munchkins are adorable, and their momma is a knock-out (from a chicken's perspective, anyway.) He's got plenty of followers, at least a dozen hens in his harem, and he does what he wants when he wants. He's that cool, and he knows it. However, Hercules joined a rooster exchange program and is spending his recent days in Olon, and a not so attractive naked-necked rooster has taken over his patrol. Now that his constant crowing is gone, we miss Hercules.
Poor Phred doesn't have tail feathers, is completely blind in one eye and struggling out of the other making the days hunt for food/water impossible. When he tries to aim for a larger piece of bread, he misses by INCHES...it's a difficult process even to hand feed him!
We usually find Phred standing alone in the coop, too scared and blind to even know how to get out. Phred stays there stranded each morning until I pick him up and set him on the ground. He is at the bottom of the "pecking order" among his peers - getting "pecked" on quite often! We (ok, Jamie) have taken to making nutritious supplements for him, trying to strengthen him, but knowing his days are numbered regardless. Either way, we do our best to make each day he'sas good a day as possible! Poor Phred.
