Even the twins got their turn. Who knew four year olds would be so good on jet skis?! No, calm down. They just floated with the machines off toward the trailer to "help" load. Uncle Geoff supervised the expedition quite successfully.
We refueled with a serious cookout and capped off the day with, of course, fireworks.
Geoff and I enjoyed the day with family on this incredibly cultural holiday back in the land we know as home.
I wrestle with differing aspects of nationalism, patriotism, etc. especially on this holiday. This year the question most strongly on my heart has been: "What is freedom - really?"
Commonly heard in conversation and prayer alike are sayings such as, "so thankful we are free...that we live in a free country." Politically, having visited places in sharp contrast to the States, I get this. Yet what is required for a country or citizen to be "free" means different things to different people. Instead of going into all of those distracting ideals, I just want to remember the one TRUE Freedom.
True Freedom is not offered by any national boundary, political structure, or earthly existence. True Freedom is only available through Christ. I believe in a GOD able and active in each new day, present in each moment in every corner of creation. I will continue striving to promote not the kingdoms of this world but the Kingdom of Heaven.
For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command:
'Love your neighbor as yourself.'
