The LORD has blessed Geoff with an incredible passion and gift for teaching. GOD's mercy and power poured through him today and even as familiar as I am with this teaching and Geoff's passion, I found myself overwhelmed right along with the rest of the group.
They have forsaken me,
the spring of living water,
and have dug their own cisterns,
broken cisterns that cannot hold water." - Jer.2:13
Fresh, flowing water as found in springs was known as "living water." Living water was required for ritual purification and known as the source of life in Biblical culture..
Which would you rather drink from? Which do we drink from? We have access to both, but must choose.
'Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.
Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said,
rivers of Living Water will flow from within them.'" - John7:37-38
I longed for the same ability to drop the camera, plans, and my fear of being cold to rush in with them. I wish I had - but found too many excuses at the time, as I do so often. They seemed reasonable, and were. It wasn't a question of what I "should have done," or whether it was "necessary." It was simply an invitation to experience MORE, and I hate the idea of ever passing that up.
As it was, I was too overcome by watching and observing the joy of those around me who did rush in, and those waiting on the sand to greet them when they returned. It was family. It was the Church - the one and only - in all her radiant, bridal beauty. Even without getting literally wet, I felt completely filled with Living Water.
The wilderness that Jesus Himself was in for 40 days surrounds this oasis. It is hot, dry, and unforgiving. It is time in this wilderness that teaches us to thirst for HE that is the true Living Water.
never again will they thirst.
The sun will not beat down on them,
nor any scorching heat.
For the Lamb at the center of the throne
will be their shepherd;
he will lead them to springs of living water.
And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."
- Rev. 7:17
