In addition, our electricity has joined the strike so we've had more candlelit ambiance than usual! Electricity comes and goes, not quite as often as our internet, but often enough that we are able to remain thankful when it IS working! We must confess, there are moments when we don't respond as graciously as possible to the inconvenience of not having these modern world technologies at our beck and call. Our expectations are still a bit spoiled having grown up in the abundance of first world living, but we DO appreciate not being able to take such conveniences for granted! For that reason, power outages and internet failures don't make the "what we don't like about Ecuador list" but instead remain on our long list of reasons we are thankful to live here!
...we went kayaking again! This time we waited till the ocean was feeling much more hospitable than last time, and we had a BLAST!
After our kayaking adventure on Friday, Geoff was more than happy to get back into the waves so that I could take photos to illustrate the adventure! We had so much fun, we went again the next day!
Kayaking on the ocean brings a whole new perspective to white water rafting. We did a little research on what we were supposed to do to become pro ocean surf kayakers, and found out we aren't supposed to use the kind of kayak we had available. Oh well. We have fun, anyway.
We finally made it past the break on our first row out on Friday and then didn't know what to do so we turned around and surfed waves in, repeating the process until we were too tired to move!
In other news, we had a great experience last Friday night when we were invited to join an Ecuadorian Jew and his community for a Shabbat (Sabbath) meal last Friday night! They had a sukkah (SUE-Kaw) set up and everything! It was much better than the blanket on chairs that Geoff and I had planned for our sukkah! Check out his last blog for more on that experience.
We had a great weekend and just got back from one of my favorite days yet at the orphanage. The kids are priceless - one of their hugs is worth more than any treasure on earth! I am so thankful for the opportunity to know them, love on them, and be loved on by them! Oh, and speaking of precious kiddos - I just found out the gender of my sister's baby, due in March - but I can't tell you yet!!!!!! SO EXCITED!!! Kids are such an incredible gift!
