Never did we expect to experience so much! We saw an incredible diversity of culture, landscape, and weather. We are both fairly well traveled but this past three weeks packed in some, no THE, most incredible cultural experiences of our lives.
After she flew out early Tuesday morning we spent a day in Quito, then escaped the 2 mile high city for the freezing cold cloud forest near Papallacta and visited the most beautiful hotsprings I've ever seen! From there we continued our commute south through Banos and Riobamba where the rumblings of an increasingly active volcano kept us up at night. I briefly but seriously considered a covert rescue operation for the Banos zoo animals we visited who are located at the base of the Tungurahua volcano. Leaving the steaming volcano in our rearview we spent another full day on buses and finally made it to Cuenca where we needed to complete the nightmare that was our visa validation. Though not without frustration, we were successful in finalizing our current visas and left immediately the next morning.
