Sunday we were invited over to a house of one couple in particular who have gone above and beyond all week to help us out. They run a bed and breakfast here at their gorgeous beach front, newly constructed property north of Olon near La Entrada - check them out at: http://www.villadelossuenosecuador.com
They had several people over and we were so thankful for the fellowship, tips, and contacts we gained. One of the people we met there owns a beautiful house with two cottages on his property - one of which was available for rent! He graciously agreed to show it to us and we would have begged to live there had he not offered it first! Since we are still figuring out the area we only needed a place until the end of the year, which was the only time this was available. We are in a studio type "beach house" right on the water, and can walk the beach to the neighboring towns or take a bus/taxi wherever we need to go. We are beyond thankful to have been able to find such a place that is so far beyond our expectations or even needs. Will post pics of our casa soon.
Then came the other question - where do we get basic supplies? The small towns here offer plenty of fresh produce, fish, etc...but the other things we didn't know how to find. They drove us to La Entrada, an hour or so away by car, and showed us the best market places and we were able to get everything we needed to get started. It is has been 3 months since we were in a place of our own...it was so much fun to be able to COOK DINNER for ourselves last night in our very own kitchen(ette)!
Surrounding all the running around getting settled in we have made great contacts at the orphanage and have fallen in love with everyone there. We went up Monday to visit the kids and figure out what opportunities may be there. Yesterday we spent the day at the orphanage and I got to hang out with the kids while Geoff and a few others helped prep to pour a concrete slab for them, and they will be building a ping pong table (also out of concrete) as well. I let some of the kids play with our point and shoot digital camera, which they were completely fascinated with. If I can get them to upload (having internet trouble at the moment) I'll attach a slideshow of some pics. All of the pictures I have from the orphanage, including the one above of Geoff, were taken by the kids. They did great!
We are enjoying Sabbath today, resting after a long week and preparing for the next! We hope to spend our mornings studying spanish as intensely as possible and our afternoons at the orphanage. Thank you all so much for your prayers - Gods's provision has astounded us. We didn't hope to get settled in as fast as we have and this allows us to get on with what we came here for much faster! Shabbat Shalom!
