We were supposed to meet at the orphanage to COMPLETE the long project of the ping pong table that we have been working on since we first arrived. This is the project that never ends (it goes on and on my friends...). We arrived 30 minutes "late" knowing from experience that they never get there on time. About 2 hours later, the others arrived! This was slow going, even for Ecuador's pace!
The original "plan" (we usually know better than to make these in Ecuador) for the day was to complete and paint the Ping Pong table this morning, have Spanish lessons from 2-4, and then we were going to have a fun gathering at the orphanage to present the ping pong table to the kids, followed by games on the beach.
Well, there's a reason we don't fall in love with plans in Ecuador. The man coordinating and donating the resources for this project didn't arrive until 12:30 (2 1/2 hours after we planned to meet), and he decided we needed to plaster the table first (we agreed), so painting was delayed...again...and therefore the rest of the plans for the day were cancelled. We were only able to work for an hour before we had to leave to go to our scheduled lessons, which for some reason meant all work on the table stopped. We are apparently that important. :) At least we got all the form work removed! It will get finished. Someday.
We had great Spanish lessons from a lady that some of our friends have been using as a tutor. She comes to our house to give lessons and charges half the price of our other options! The Spanish lessons were GREAT, and we are so thankful to have found someone who can begin tutoring us regularly, that we can afford!
There were other unique, surprising elements of today that I'll mention another time, but this post is already too long! Never just another day in Ecuador! Tune in tomorrow - we're going whale watching in Puerto Lopez!!!
